Plant Containers and Flower
Pots
Flower pots and plant containers can
be used to create a beautifully landscaped yard
which can be maintained year round. Hanging plants
and window boxes can also be used in this capacity.
Many homeowners
invest a great deal of time, energy and money in landscaping
their yards but do not realize that they can still create
a gorgeous landscape through the use of elements which
are portable and can be brought into the home during the
winter and replaced in the spring. This can save a great
deal of time each year and can also have the added effect
of giving the homeowners beautiful plant life in their home
during the winter.
Making use of garden planters is beneficial
for a number of reasons. As mentioned above, the
mobility of garden planters is very advantageous. First of
all garden planters and flower pots can be brought into the
home during the winter to avoid freezing and allow the homeowners
to enjoy these plants year round. The other benefit is that
flower pots and planters can be rearranged with ease. This
gives the homeowner the ability to change the look of their
landscaping without the effort involved in replanting each
plant individually. Instead the plant pots or planter can
simply be picked up and moved to a new location.
Another appeal of using outdoor plant
containers and flower pots is to landscape an area that
the planters themselves can be used to create a desired visual
effect.
Garden planters come in a wide variety of
sizes, shapes, colors and materials. There are so many
options available when choosing a planter that homeowners
may have a great deal of difficulty choosing just one option.
This is acceptable because different types of plant containers
can be combined. These planter combinations can either
be complementary or contrasting and both looks can be visually
appealing.
Care should be taken when utilizing outdoor
planters to ensure the size of the flower pots or planters
are large enough to accommodate the plant which is placed
in them. A plant which is expected to grow significantly
may be started in a smaller flower planter and later transferred
to a larger pot as it begins to grow. This is a delicate
balance but it should be given a significant amount of attention.
Plants or flowers which are placed in planters which are
too big will be dominated by the pot. However, plants or
flowers which are placed in planters which are too small
may not have enough room to grow. The roots may become entangled
and may not be able to extend far enough to draw adequate
moisture into the plant life.
One more aspect of utilizing outdoor pots is to ensure the
plants are protected from insects and weeds as they would
be if the plants were placed in the ground. These plants do
have limited protection from insects and weeds because they
are not placed directly in the ground but they are still susceptible
to infestations. To avoid damage to the plants by insects
which can harm both the root and the flower and weeds which
can rob the plant of vital nutrients, care should be taken
to properly fertilize the plant while it is in the flower
planters.
