Garden Awnings Aren’t Just for Looking Cool

Garden Awnings are growing in popularity, as the earth seems to get warmer. Gone are the days when their functions were merely decorative. Today’s awnings are far more utilitarian than the awnings of old. There are awnings for covering a patio, shading a garden, shading a window or doorway, and other cooling properties; in addition to the curb appeal and decorative touches they add to a home.

Today’s awnings offer a great deal in the way of decorative value with many shades and materials to choose from. They can also be used to shade outside dining or seating areas from the heat of the sun in an attractive manner.

There are now electric awnings that can be extended and retracted by the push of a button. These are terrific if you have limited patio space and prefer that this space be used for shade on occasion as well as for sunshine. These motorized or electric awnings offer the best of both world, one space that can be shaded from the son or shielded from the rain in addition to being a great spot for house plants to have a day in the sun or for catching some rays yourself all at the touch of a button.

Covering a window with an awning protects your home in many ways. First of all, it offers shade so the space below the window will not fluctuate in temperature as much as it would if there were no awnings covering the window. The shade also prevents the bright sunlight from getting into your home and causing furniture, curtains, and carpeting to fade.

Well placed awnings on the outside of your home will lower the overall temperature inside your home during the hottest of summer months resulting in much lower utility bills. This is great news for those who live in southern climates where high temperatures abound for the majority of the year. They can however be of great service to anyone who has summer at any time of the year.

Awnings offer much needed shade to plants in your garden that may need indirect sunlight bout would do poorly and whither within the bright harsh glare of the suns midday rays. This will save countless hours of replanting to say the least. Awnings also offer shading to comfort to you as well as protect your from the harmful rays of the sun as you are working in your garden.

When comparing prices on garden awnings be sure to look at all the features of the particular awnings you are considering at as well as the materials they are made of. Is it worth the extra price to you for an electric awning? Do you need your patio to serve dual purposes; do you want to have a better view of the sky when the sun isn’t being particularly brutal? Consider what your reason for buying the awning is when you walk in the store and choose the awning that will best suit that purpose.
